Celebrity Traitors star Amol Rajan has admitted he 'played the wrong game' as he broke his silence after being the first murder victim of the series on Friday. 

The journalist lost a head-to-head with comedian James Acaster to join traitors Maya Jama and Richard E Grant after pleading their case to be saved. 

The episode ended on a cliffhanger, with James and Amol lying in coffins as host Claudia Winkleman spoke to the Traitors before walking behind the coffins, pacing back and fourth and then slamming a lid shut.

Following the cliffhanger, it was revealed that Amol had been murdered and he later appeared on The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked. 

Breaking his silence, Amol confessed he had warned himself to 'shut up' and avoid being 'the journalist who asks all the awkward questions' in a bid to not be murdered or banished early on.

He said: 'It's hard not to watch it and think I, obviously, with 20/20 hindsight, I played the wrong game.

'That was a crazy, crazy once-in-a-lifetime (opportunity).'

'Obviously, I wish I'd been chosen, and I wish I'd been a traitor,' he continued.

'I can say, hand on heart, that if I'd been chosen as a traitor in the first, when Maya and Richard were, if I got the nod or the tap at the roundtable, I think it would have thrown me a bit.

'I'd be like, 'what am I doing? what's going on?' having genuinely spent a day as a faithful, if I'd then been recruited, I think I would have been quite a good traitor because I'd actually known what it was like to be a faithful.'

He added: 'Just as there's winners there has to be losers and you know what, I've loved the ride.'

Amol's departure now means comedian James, who had stressed he didn't want to be traitor, would now join Richard and Maya in the famous turret.  

Speaking after his shock exit, Amol admitted that he is ‘grieving’ being kicked off so early.

‘It's just an absolutely unforgettable ride of a lifetime. And honestly, there's kind of an unhappy contrast right now, because I'm sort of grieving what might have been.

‘In time I know that I'll come to look on this as honestly one of the greatest privileges of my life.’

It comes after Traitors fans were left furious over the 'ridiculous' cliffhanger ending on Friday night as the hit BBC show abruptly ended mid round table. 

The tension rose between the celebrities at the first round table of the series as they debated whether Richard E Grant is a faithfull or not, after the actor made the biggest slip-up in history by openly admitting he was a traitor. 

And just as the celebrities were going back and fourth on Richard's innocence, Claudia announced: 'Players the time for talk is over,' and the second episode surprisingly ended. 

Fans were left shocked by the 'massive cliffhanger' as viewers didn't even get the chance to see the stars write who they believe is a traitor on their chalk boards and will now have to wait six days for the next episode. 

They wrote: 'Yeah not a fan of these cliffhanger endings on the traitors. Since when did they end the show before a round table vote? Ridiculous. #traitors;
