Mallomars, the 113-year-old seasonal cookie from Mondelēz International, is returning to shelves soon after six months away. The snack, which features round graham crackers topped with marshmallow and covered in dark chocolate, is only available September through March annually.

From The Sopranos to Gilmore Girls, Mallomars have become a true cultural sensation, the company says. From watching cookie lovers stockpile them in their freezers during the season to seeing a spike in demand with snowbirds’ migration down south, the brand has seen consumers’ excitement run wild decade after decade, it adds.

Some little-known facts about the cookie include:

  • The brand remains a seasonal favorite, returning to shelves each September and disappearing by spring to avoid the summer heat (so the product doesn’t melt in transit).
  • The brand generates $11.1 million in annual sales, despite its shortened time on shelves each year.
  • While 77% of consumption remains in the Northeast of the U.S., the brand has gained traction down south, driven by snowbirds bringing their seasonal tastes to Florida, and has seen an uptick in southern grocery store chain demand.

"Mallomars is the embodiment of an American classic brand that stands the test of time—weathering cultural shifts and decades of consumer evolution. A true jewel in the MDLZ portfolio, this 1913-invented brand remains a seasonal favorite," shares Michael Garber, senior associate brand manager for Mallomars at Mondelez. "Mallomars endures because it’s more than a treat, it's a seasonal ritual that fans return to each year."
