You can officially consider the humble coffee sleeve, elevated. Today, the official first day of fall, Dunkin and L.L. Bean released a limited-edition cup sleeve designed to look like a miniature L.L. Bean Birdseye sweater wrapped around your iced (or hot) latte. It is, per Dunkin’s own description, “the ultimate fall layer.” It is also, as of about six hours after launch, nowhere to be found.
The premise was simple. Unlike the lengthy hoops you had to jump through to score a Starbucks Snoopy Cup, all you needed to do to get one of these adorable little sweaters was pull up to a participating Dunkin drive-thru (or go inside) and buy any size hot or iced coffee to get the sweater for free, while supplies lasted. “While supplies lasted” turned out to mean “while supplies lasted until approximately 9 a.m.,” judging by the group chats, Reddit threads, and unhinged TikToks of people driving to a third, fourth, even fifth Dunkin location in search of the cozy-coded packaging for their pumpkin spice lattes. The cup sweaters are, notably, just the appetizer because the actual matching $79.95 Birdseye Sweater and $59.95 Boat and Tote don’t drop on L.L. Bean until next Tuesday, September 29, at 10 a.m. ET, as part of the brands’ first-ever collaboration.

As of publication, Dunkin has said nothing bout replenishing the supply of the wildly popular sweaters. No promise, no denial, just radio silence from the newsroom that broke the story in the first place. Which tracks, because limited-edition giveaways tend to stay limited on purpose. The scarcity is the marketing strategy.
Can You Buy the Dunkin x L.L. Bean Cup Sweaters Online? While the free sweaters could only be acquired at participating Dunkin locations, this hasn’t stopped the secondary market from doing what it always does. Sleeves that cost nothing more than the price of a coffee this morning are already listed on resale sites like eBay for anywhere between $25 and $125, which is an objectively deranged markup for a tiny sweater.
If eBay feels too rich for your blood (or too public a confession of how badly you wanted this), Facebook Marketplace is worth a scroll. Local resellers tend to be a little more reasonable, and you can at least pretend you’re not funding someone’s coffee-sleeve arbitrage side hustle from across the country.
Our advice? Keep expectations low on an official restock, and if you truly cannot live without wrapping your cup in a tiny pink sweater, brace yourself for the secondary market, or set a calendar reminder for the actual sweater drop on September 29th.
