I was delighted to see that Kate Snyder is running for an at-large seat on Portland City Council. She brings years of experience as the former chair of the Portland School Board and former mayor.

During her mayoral tenure, Snyder faced huge challenges as Portland navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and dealt with the protests following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. She handled both crises in a calm, respectful way, and worked incredibly hard to keep our city on an even keel.

In recent years, some of Portland’s elected officials have brought their personal drama to the council. Others have spoken out on national and international issues in a way that has divided the community and distracted from the many challenges that Portland faces.

I trust Kate Snyder to focus on the well-being of the city, its businesses and residents. We are fortunate that someone with her wealth of experience is stepping forward to help lead our city.
