MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. The factors straining and damaging relations between Russia and the United States took shape over decades, and Moscow would like them to recede into the past, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Everything that casts a shadow over our relations with the United States did not emerge yesterday or today, but took shape over decades. We would very much like these divisive factors to recede into the past and new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation to emerge," Putin said at a plenary session of the 23rd meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
