Chicago weather: Dense fog and low visibility, with multiple rounds of rain on the way

Multiple rounds of heavy rain will move back into the Chicago area this week, starting overnight into Wednesday, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.
“Today will stay dry,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Iisha Scott said Tuesday. “But when we get into Wednesday, rain chances start to increase into Thursday and Friday as well.”
Tuesday started out foggy, with a dense fog advisory issued for counties to the north and west through 10 a.m. The fog was expected to last through the morning commute, the National Weather Service said, with rapid changes in visibility possible.
After the fog lifts, skies will be partly cloudy, with highs in the mid-70s.
Overnight, showers from the west will begin moving east, Scott said. By about 5 a.m., rain will overspread across the area, including during the morning commute.
“It will be heavy at times,” Scott warned.
Additional rounds of heavy rain will move in through Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, with some breaks at times. But those won’t last long, with heavy rain and thunder expected again Thursday morning.
“The Thursday morning commute is going to be slick,” Scott said, with the rain expected to last all day and into Friday morning.
Some locations could see localized flooding, Scott said, with rainfall totals topping three inches in some parts.
Heading into the weekend, the wet weather will dissipate, with drier conditions expected to move in.
Temperatures will start to drop as the week goes on and into the weekend, Scott said, with readings in the mid-60s for the first weekend of October.
