Tom Tiffany, a Republican Congressman from Wisconsin who is currently the state's gubernatorial nominee, revealed that he was in a plane crash Saturday after which he was forced to swim for his life.

'While returning home from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner tonight, the plane I was traveling in lost power as we approached the Wausau Downtown Airport. The pilot made an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau,' Tiffany wrote in a post on Facebook.

'After landing, we called 911. As the plane began to submerge, we exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow area, where we waited until emergency responders reached us by boat,' he added.

Tiffany then shared that he and the pilot of the four-seat Bonanza sustained 'minor injuries.'

Further in his statement, Tiffany thanked the pilot, as well as the first responders who came to their aid, writing, 'they got us safely off the water and transported us to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where we received excellent care.'

The congressman and his wife, Chris, later reunited at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital. 

The cause of the power loss which resulted in the crash remains under investigation.

The Marathon County Sheriff's office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources first responded to the scene, and the investigation was later handed over to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Tiffany, has represented Wisconsin's 7th District since 2020, when it's then congressman and President Trump's current Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy resigned from office for family reasons.

Tiffany is currently the GOP nominee to be Wisconsin's governor, and is facing off against Democrat David Crowley in November.

A Marquette Law School poll published at the end of August showed the two tied at 44 percent of support each among respondents who were registered voters. 12 percent of registered voter respondents to the poll were undecided.

Duffy's son-in-law, Michael Alfonso, 26, has been nominated to fill Tiffany's Congressional seat, which is considered to be a GOP stronghold.

Alfonso beat out Jessi Ebben, Kevin Hermening, Niina Threlfall-Baum and Cheryl Ann Runkel, who were running on the GOP ballot.

Trump backed Alfonso in a Truth Social post, calling it a 'great honor' to endorse the 26-year-old, whom he called a MAGA warrior and a young 'STAR.'

The president touted his support for energy dominance, the Second Amendment, and border and election security as reasons Republicans should support him.

During the bitter primary battle, Alfonso was criticized for his young age and the significant impact his in-laws were making in the race.

Wisconsin's 7th congressional district has been represented by Republicans for the last 15 years.
