MOSCOW, September 30. /TASS/. European politicians fabricate a threat from Russia to cover up their economic failures and the lack of trust from the people, Romanian blogger and expert at the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN), Ioana Jaleel told TASS.

"I think at the moment the European Union is in a very bad economic situation. The politicians don't have people's trust anymore. People don't trust the politicians. People don't trust anyone. I even saw a poll in my country. It was regarding how many people trust the president and the institutions. And it was something like 17%. So, they need to cover this lack of trust, they need to cover their bad economic decisions and they need to show that there is a threat against us," she said.

According to Jaleel, European politicians always invent a threat so that they can restrict certain human rights and keep the people under control.

"The most obvious trend you could find is Russia, because they also speak based on the past, they see Russia the same as the Soviet Union, and they say ‘We were at war with Russia at some point,’ especially in my country, we had some historical problems, so it's the easiest target for Europeans," she added.

Jaleel said that Europeans had tried to use Iran in this way in the context of the war, but it didn’t work because people don’t think that way.

"But with Russia it was continuous propaganda since at least 30 years ago, especially in the eastern part since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The propaganda was so intense that the people actually started to believe this. And I think it's very difficult. If the mass media continues showing Russia as a threat, it will be very difficult for people and for us, for the fact-checkers, to show the truth, actually."
