The Houston Texans recently suffered a big blow with second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins going down for the season with a torn ACL. Higgins impressed as a rookie pass-catcher and was set to be Houston’s No. 2 wideout in 2026.

Well, the Texans didn’t wait long to address the situation ahead of what will be a crucial year for the perception of quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Houston acquired wide receiver Kayshon Boutte in a trade with the New England Patriots that sent safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick to New England. Tom Pelissero of Netflix and The Ringer was the first to report the news:

Boutte, 24, had 33 receptions for 551 yards (16.7 AVG) and six touchdowns with the Patriots in 2025.

The LSU product had a turbulent college career but was always known as an extremely talented wideout after being a five-star recruit. New England selected him with a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Boutte should quickly play a meaningful role in Houston’s wide receiving corps that’s led by Nico Collins, and he gives Stroud a needed big-play threat to work with.

As ESPN’s Mina Kimes noted, Boutte goes from one AFC title contender to another. These teams met last postseason, for example, and Boutte even scored a touchdown for New England. And maybe they will meet again in the upcoming postseason, but with Boutte on the other team this time.
