Researchers believe that one of the mysterious hidden voids could be the final resting place of Queen Nefertiti.

The search for a hidden room within the tomb of King Tutankhamun began back in 2015 when British archaeologist Nicholas Reeves discovered what he believed to be the outline of at least one hidden door built into the walls of the tomb's interior - an entrance to what could even be the long-lost burial chamber of Queen Nefertiti - the wife of the pharoah Akhenaten and stepmother to King Tut.

While nothing ultimately came of this, new geophysical evidence has recently surfaced suggesting that there may indeed be several hidden chambers connected to the young pharaoh's tomb.

The research, which was headed up by archaeologist Mamdouh Eldamaty of Ain Shams University, used a combination of ground-penetrating radar and a microgravity survey to build up a picture of subterranean density changes within the vicinity of the chamber.

What they found was tantalizing evidence of a tunnel network situated around 30 meters away.

The findings could serve to confirm what many archaeologists have long suspected - that King Tut's tomb is actually part of a much larger royal burial complex.

If such a complex really has lain undisturbed at this location since antiquity, it could contain a wealth of treasures that might even eclipse those found in King Tut's own chamber.

It might also be the final resting place of Queen Nefertiti.

Until the researchers are able to gain direct access to this hidden complex, however, we won't know for sure whether or not it exists and if there really is something of significance buried there.
