Fancy a Red Sea escape without the long-haul flight? From October, you’ll be able to fly directly from Abu Dhabi to Red Sea International Airport (RSI) with Etihad Airways, putting the region’s luxury resorts, turquoise waters and islands just over three hours from the UAE capital.

The new route forms part of Red Sea International Airport’s plans to expand its connectivity across the GCC, with Etihad Airways adding a direct Abu Dhabi service to its growing network.

The Etihad service from Zayed International Airport (AUH) will begin on October 4, operating every Sunday. And if you’re already eyeing this quick getaway, flights are already available to book. This will increase to twice weekly from October 25.

Flight timings for the launch service are as follows:

• Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Red Sea International Airport (RSI): Departure 9.55am, arrival 12.05pm

• Red Sea International Airport (RSI) to Zayed International Airport (AUH): Departure 2pm, arrival 6.05pm

Speaking on the new service, Michael White, Chief Commercial Officer of Red Sea International Airport, said, “Red Sea International Airport is the front door to the Red Sea coast, home to two of the world’s most ambitious new destinations, The Red Sea and AMAALA. Etihad’s twice-weekly service from Abu Dhabi opens the region to guests from across the UAE and far beyond.”

Antonoaldo Neves, Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, added, “The kind of holiday people normally take a long-haul flight for – islands, reefs, and relaxation – is now a short flight from Abu Dhabi and a single connection from anywhere across our network.”

There are already 11 resorts open along the Red Sea coast, including Six Senses Southern Dunes, Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve and Four Seasons Resort and Residences, with another six set to open in the coming months.
