The cast has been announced for the two-act musical comedy, "The Great Skillet Killin’ of Jericho County," written by Tom Brown and Becky Buller.

The musical will be directed by Mae Jensen, and will feature Vanessa Stafford (Irene McGibboney), Scott Jackson (Dan McGibboney), Adam Stark (Sheriff Ron Pursley), Darlene Penland (Big Tilda Belcher), Judah Hamilton (Deputy Jubal Early Johnson), Amber Lockhart (Myrtis Macatee), Tammy Stafford (Wavalene Walls), Austin Stafford (Melvin Brunt), Lucas Wiley (Clyde Cronk), Robert Wiley (Peterson Heflin III), Jessie Hargis (Tennessee Trixie), Fred Fitzgerald (Eugene Pangle), Mary Ellen Gurley (Lurlene Pangle), Chris Davidson (Rev.

Redwine), Marlene Fry (Bernice Sproggle), Donald Gray (Doc Sproggle), Wendy Clayton (Eunice Sterling), Karen Keith (Lucy Bea Teasley), Sophie McKee (Doreen Toureen), Abigail Jones (Roberta Charlene Wannamaker), Lauren Wiley (Louella Wannamaker), David Crawford (Earl Wooten) and Ross Wiley (Burvin Childers).

“We’re really excited to bring this musical comedy to life on stage in Chatsworth,” said Jessica Whealy, Murray Arts Council president, adding “It’s a fun show that folks will enjoy.”

Set in the fictional farming community of Gribbleville, Tennessee in the fall of 1952, the musical blends early 1950s music, small-town humor and quirky colorful Appalachian characters in a story centered around the county fair’s fiercely contested cornbread competition. For 10 years running, Irene McGibboney has claimed the prize for Jericho County’s best cornbread. After she wins the 11th time, the town’s gossip mill goes into overdrive, things start getting dicey and the law has to be called in. A musical comedy with all the right ingredients: strong-armed robbery, solicitation, impersonation, jail house romance and murder.

Six performances are planned, and the two-act musical is scheduled to open Friday, Nov. 6 at the Derr-Berry, 208 North Third Ave. in Chatsworth.
