Unfortunately, CONTROL Resonant has leaked. The game is set to launch tomorrow, on Sept. 24, alongside literally dozens of other mid-sized and big titles, but has somehow found its way onto the internet prematurely. It’s now actively being pirated, which puts it alongside titles like Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Beast of Reincarnation.

As Destructoid could assess, CONTROL Resonant has leaked and found its way onto various pirating forums, mostly based in Russia. Some forums refuse to host the game’s files in fear of retaliation from publishers, but it’s safe to say that some folks out there are already playing the title.

What’s worse, CONTROL Resonant comes without any prominent anti-tamper protection, using only built-in DRMs from Epic Games Store and Steam, both of which have automated cracking software that allows any user to create their own cracks on the go. Both of these DRMs are very low-level protection and can barely count as anti-tamper measures, allowing pirates to easily breach into the game so long as they have the files.

The sequel to Remedy’s CONTROL and a further expansion of its Alan Wake universe, Resonant has an 84 average score on Metacritic, and our Pedro Peres gave it a 9 out of 10, praising its fluid combat and incredible characters. It’s a good game by all accounts and potentially a way out for Remedy after less-than-stellar sales on Alan Wake 2. What the impact of this leak will be is unclear, but I hope sales won’t be reduced by much.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first game that had this happen to it this year. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy leaked and got pirated a full week before release, and going off its Steam numbers, it could be that the leak had a tremendous impact on its performance. Beast of Reincarnation suffered a similar fate.

All of these are pretty big games by well-known studios, raising the question of how this is happening so frequently.
