Our hearts are breaking for Cindy Crawford, whose son, Presley Gerber, tragically died on September 20 at 27 years old. In an interview released just days before his untimely death, the supermodel opened up about parenting adult kids, including how she had to “back off.”

In a September 10 interview with Net-A-Porter, Crawford shared how her parenting had changed since her kids, Presley and Kaia Gerber, 25, who she shares with husband, Rande Gerber, were all grown up. “My mother’s also a great mother because she’s pretty good at not giving advice unless you ask for it,” Crawford told the outlet. “I’ve realized that’s really hard to do, but now that my kids are older, I do try to.”

She added, “When they become adults, all of a sudden you’re like, okay, I’ve got to back off here. It might not be the way I would do it, but you know…”

In the interview, she also opened up about empty nesting and her hopes to be a grandmother one day. “I’m at the age where a lot of my friends are starting to have grandkids, and even though I don’t think either one of my kids is close, I do hope I get to experience that, because it looks really fun,” Crawford said.

Presley died at a rehab facility, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, per TMZ. A rep for the family confirmed he passed on Sunday, adding in a statement, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”

Over the years, Presley has been open about his struggles with addiction. He was arrested for a DUI in January 2019, resulting in 3 years of probation. In November 2025, Presley opened up about his addictions on Instagram, writing that he’s had “to step back and take care of my own mental health for a bit.”

On March 26, Preston shared a video from Mexico, where he was going to get rehab treatment. “Pre Ibogaine Flood Dose – quiet moment before everything changed,” he wrote in the caption. “i was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this (helps to not go into the situations you do that get ya there but that’s life sometimes.)”

He added, “I knew why i was there. I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, i started finding my way back to myself 🤍…. We shall see…. Praying it’s the last time I have to come back. Next time I’d like to choose 😜 🙏🏻”

Crawford commented, “You are a warrior! Walked thru the fire to find yourself! So proud! 🙏” Kaia also commented, sharing, “that’s my brother I am so damn proud.”

Rande wrote, “I’m so proud of you and your courage. Facing what’s hard takes real strength and watching you find your way back to yourself is everything. I love you so much❤️”

In an August 11 interview with Vogue, Kaia shared how her brothers’ struggles with mental health and drug addiction affected her growing up.

“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she candidly told the outlet. “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.”
