Dublin, Monday 14th September 2026: ALONE, the national organisation supporting older people to age well at home, has been engaged by the Health Service Executive (HSE) to provide support to survivors of residential institutional abuse. 

Under the Supports for Survivors of Residential Institutional Abuse Act 2025, eligible survivors are entitled to lifelong support in the community, if required. 

To support the rollout of the scheme, ALONE will work with survivors and families to meet their needs and help them get the services, supports and entitlements available to them. Through its national network of staff and volunteers, ALONE will provide personalised support, helping people navigate complex systems, overcome barriers and put the right supports in place to improve their wellbeing and quality of life. This support goes beyond health needs alone, extending to the full range of challenges involved in ageing well within the community.

Many survivors have needs that go well beyond healthcare alone, and our role is to ensure no one is left to navigate this system on their own.
