Conn. Energy Assistance Program begins accepting applications for 2026-2027 season

As we prepare for temperatures to drop later this year, help is available for families in the state who may be struggling with the cost. The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 season.
For Connecticut residents using oil to heat their homes, prices are up around $1.50 compared to this time last year. This comes as about half of Connecticut homes rely on heating with oil. That means 1,000 gallons could cost about $1,500 more.
This is also the first time in over a decade that Eversource is seeking an electric rate increase.
But help is available. If you live in Connecticut and either receive SNAP, SSI, veterans benefits or your annual household income falls at or below 60 percent of the state’s median income, your household may be eligible for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program.
Those benefits range from $355 to $705 depending on your household size, income and heating source.

The benefits are not automatic and even if you received benefits in previous years, you still must re-apply this year.
You can apply online, by phone, by email or in person through your local community action agency.
As you prepare to apply, you’ll first need to finish the six page energy assistance application. You’ll also need to submit either a copy of your most recent heating bill if you’re applying for heating assistance, electric bill if you’re applying for electric assistance or a copy of a lease showing that utilities are included in your rent.
All mailed, emailed or in-person applications must be signed or they will be considered invalid and will be returned back.
The last day to apply for benefits is May 31, 2027.
