Real estate investment firm Gencom is reorganizing into two different business lines, with new hires and promotions to match.

The reorganization splits the firm, which has $8 billion in assets under management, into Gencom Capital and Gencom Real Estate, with CEO and founder Karim Alibhai continuing to steer both ships, according to Gencom.

Gencom operates up to 6,000 hotel rooms nationwide, including brands like Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, Auberge Resorts Collection, Fairmont, Hyatt and Marriott.

“Successful real estate platforms are built by combining disciplined investing with exceptional execution,” Alibhai said in a statement. “As Gencom continues to grow, this evolution strengthens our leadership, sharpens accountability and positions us to capitalize on the opportunities ahead while continuing to deliver outstanding outcomes for our investors and partners.”

Gencom Capital will be led by Chief Investment Officer Alessandro Colantonio, who will handle capital markets, portfolio management and capital allocation. Newly promoted managing directors include Ignasi Puig, who will handle acquisitions and investments; Peter Trujillo, who will be responsible for corporate investments; and Blythe Pierre-Louis, who will manage special situations.

Meanwhile, Donald McGregor was promoted to president of Gencom Real Estate and will oversee development, construction and asset management. Shaun Johnston was also promoted to head of portfolio finance and accounting and will report directly to McGregor. Jake Lynch was hired as senior vice president of asset management for Gencom Real Estate.

“As we continue to grow, we are building a team with the expertise to create value at every stage of the investment lifecycle,” McGregor said in a statement. “Jake is a terrific addition to the Gencom Real Estate platform, and Shaun’s promotion reflects the depth of talent we have developed within the firm. Together, they reinforce our ability to cultivate talent, build relationships and deliver measurable results for our investors, partners and stakeholders.”
